Reclaim Recycle Reinvent – Factory Open Day

Instead of Reduce Recycle Reuse, we have repurposed this famous “3R” phrase to represent how Re>Pal adds value and it was with great pleasure that we hosted our open day at the Pasuruan factory for interested partners, clients and also prospective clients. It was great to see the excitement from everyone attending as they saw the reprocessing of the mixed waste stream from raw and dirty plastic into clean, shredded, pelletised plastic and finally extruded into pallets. We had over 90 attendees and as mentioned above, Pak Karyanto from Danone talked about his company’s relationship with Re>Pal and the sustainability drivers behind this. Also kindly standing up to speak was Simon Oxley from LF Logistics. Simon described their sustainability and cost goals and the reasons why they selected Re>Pal. Simon mentioned that across Asia their fleet of pallets extends to several million pallets, and while of course not all of these would be suitable for replacement with plastic, as many of these may fall into complex distribution patterns where a pooling company is much more able to collect and recover these pallets, there may be many other scenarios where the sustainability and lifetime value benefits of the Re>Pal pallet compared to timber are a better fit to a company’s goals. Many of our clients are examining this trade-off of cost, vs. lifetime vs. sustainability goals and our Lifetime Value Calculator can certainly help in exploring these tradeoffs.

At the Open Day, visitors also saw the Danone-AQUA waste in a pallet, along with other waste that had been trialled from other multi-nationals. This will be an ongoing focus for Re>Pal to reinvent waste into our pallet, or indeed reinvent other products. On this theme we have recently invested in a crusher, to be able to crush ‘clotted’ plastic waste. This is waste that we create in our process, and also that other companies using plastic may also create that we can use. It is very hard to shred this waste into useable pieces without having a crusher.  This will help us reuse even more waste, as well as helping us reuse and reinvent waste from our partner clients.
